An important factor in determining the off-road mobility of vehicles is vibration, but efforts to quantify vibration and its effects practically and expediently have been frustrated by the complexity of the problem. The vibration environment is the result of the interplay of several factors mechanical structure of the vehicle, spectral content and roughness of the terrain, speed of traversal, and vibration tolerance of driver and occupants. The report describes a method for characterizing vehicle dynamics in a direct, graphic way. The method is described in summary form to convey an overview. Circumstances in which the method can be of service to vehicle designers and analysts, and the several technical factors bearing on its organization and implementation are given.
