A new carborane, 5-CH33N- 2,4-C2B4H6-, has been prepared from the reaction of closo-1,6-C2B4H6 and trimethylamine. Consistent with both boron-11 and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra a pyramidal structure is proposed having two carbons and three borons in the base and a boron at the apex. The carbons 2,4 are separated by a boron 3 a nitrogen is attached to boron 5 and, a bridge hydrogen is placed between borons 5 and 6. Author
