The report outlines progress and significant technical information obtained during the period September 1, 1971, through August 31, 1972, on basic research in dynamic sealing. Progress on the development of instrumentation for dynamically measuring pressure, temperature, and film thickness without disturbing the flow field in a mechanical face seal test facility is reported. Preliminary findings on wear tests are reported for nickel-29.1 weight percent molybdenum alloy, both ordered and disordered forms, and for pure nickel for 6 mating combinations of the 3 materials.
