The ultimate objective of this project is the development of a zero-g gauging system based on the absorption of gamma radiation. The numerous subsystem parameters of a nucleonic gauge were interrelated in closed form and subjected to appropriate tradeoff analyses and optimization routines to synthesize gauging systems capable of meeting the prescribed performance parameters. Particular emphasis was placed on achieving high levels of accuracy 1 percent or better over the entire range of full- to empty-tank conditions with gauges configured completely external to spherical tanks fueled with cryogenic propellants.
