Abstract:

In order to keep as small as possible the inevitable boundary errors in numerical forecasting within arbitrarily limited areas, it is suggested to use time dependent boundary values which originate from a simultaneously integrated outer much more coarse model. In principle, grid telescoping is applicable to a quasi geostrophic model. To this end the well known prognostic model by Buleev and Marcuk is established for a horizontally limited area. On such a basis a specialized equivalent barotropic model as an outer model could furnish approximated boundary values for the inner model. Author
