Developmental emphasis during the quarter reported on was primarily upon 1 optimization of growth techniques, 2 development and optimization of photocathodes activation techniques and 3 development of tube activation and fabrication techniques. Experience indicated that research facilities cannot, by their nature, effectively supply large quantities of materials. Rather, a system which is dedicated to producing a singular type of material is required, and is in use at RCA-Lancaster. Results are tabulated for composition control experiments, activation technique development, and sensitivities and QE achieved at various doping levels. A schematic is presented of processing steps used in activating III-IV samples to a state of negative electron affinity. Author
