Abstract:

It was found that the properties of thiophosphates are influenced strongly by the size of the radical connected with the thiol sulfur. The larger the radical the higher the thermo-oxidative stability, and for O,O-dialkyl-S-alkyldithiophosphates the lower the antiwear properties of the compounds. The following compounds were shown to be promising as multifunctional antiwear additives trialkyltetrathiophosphates, bis-O,-dialkylthiophosphonedisulfides, and mixed ethers of thiophosphoric acids which contain nitrogen in the alkyl radical. The introduction of a trichloromethyl group into a molecule of dialkyldithiophosphates sharply intensifies their antiwear properties. Author
