The design of these Photogrammetric Test Standards evolved from results obtained with experimental test devices prepared under contract AF30 6024369-FSC-A7D2. The same basic 9 inch by 9 inch format was used and two pairs of plates were produced. The area of each plate was first divided into 9 cells of 3 inch by 3 inch size. On these test standards, each cell is repeated 3 times at each of 3 density levels. On the background plates, 3 other density levels occupy 3 different areas, each 3 inches by 9 inches in extent. When the background plate has been combined with the image plate, each cell appears at 9 different density levels. In each of the test standards, the individual cell is divided into 9 sub cells. Each sub cell is 1 inch square and each carries a specific type of information, such as resolution targets, fiducial marks, sine wave patterns, etc. Each 1 inch square sub cell is further subdivided into 9 pattern areas. Each pattern area is 8 millimeters square. These typically are 9 Ronchi rulings of different frequencies, 9 different fiducial marks of basically the same size, etc. This provides a total of 729 test areas per plate. Author
