Abstract:

The acquisition of a discriminated avoidance response for two auditory patterns, presented on alternate days, was studied for seven chinchillas. One discrimination involved the deletion of the second tone of three tone pattern and the other involved a change in frequency of the second tone. Results indicated that the tonal delection was a more difficult problem for the chinchilla than the frequency change. The data also suggest that the chinchillas utilized all available information within the auditory patterns. Author
