Scattering of Acoustic Waves by a Spherical Inclusion in a Solid.

An analysis is presented of surface deformation and scattered energy due to scattering of a high frequency plane longitudinal wave by a spherical inclusion in an isotrophically elastic solid medium. The inclusion is taken to be an isotropically elastic sphere of different material or a spherical cavity. The average rate of total scattered energy has been derived in terms of the expansion coefficients of the scattering waves. Exact and approximate, for both Rayleigh scattering and finite small inclusion, expressions for the expansion coefficients have been obtained. Author
