The goal of this contract is to develop a 34 inch diameter photomultiplier for detection of 1.06 micrometers laser light. This quarterly report discusses photocathodes made in three different geometries. Activation techniques are described and the difference among the three geometries are noted with respect to their effect on quantum efficiency. Stable quantum efficiencies in photomultipliers have increased by a factor of four to 0.24 at 1.06 micrometers over those reported in the last quarterly report. The growth system for GaInAs is described and a discussion of materials parameters is given. Detailed material composition studies were made during this period and the methods and results are presented. In addition to the materials characterization a critique of spectral response measurements is included to complete the description of photocathode characterization methods. Author
