The monograph introduces the concepts and methods of the Lie theory used in current applications in a form accessible to the non-specialist by keeping mathematical pre-requisites to a minimum. Chapter 1 deals with the basic properties of Lie groups and Lie algebras and Chapter 2 covers representation theory. Chapter 3, on constructive methods, presents the computational aspects of the subject and includes material developed by the authors for using various algorithms in the Lie theory in programs for electronic digital computers.
