Abstract:

The report describes three remote sensing devices developed to measure jet exhaust fluctuating density gradients, mean and turbulent velocity and mean temperature are described. These instruments are a crossed-beam schlieren, a laser Doppler velocimenter, and a pulsed laser interferometer. A jet turbulence facility was developed, along with five 2 inch diameter jet nozzles one convergent and four con-div, up to Mach 2.0, for the purpose of providing laboratory controlled conditions, in order to properly evaluate the remote sensing instruments.
