The fluorescence lifetimes of the sextet P72 state of Gd3 in the assumed monoclinic GCl site and in the tetragonal C4v site of SrF2 for various concentrations of Ce3 as a codopant have been studied. Of particular interest was the GCl site which has been shown to arise in the presence of the Ce3 codopant. The excitation and decay modes of the two sites were analyzed in terms of the three-level model. Experimental techniques involved using the boxcar integrator coupled to a logarithmic converter and an analog-to-digital data acquisition system. For the GCl site, strong Ce35d band adsorption at 2500A with exchange transfer directly to the sextet P72 state of Gd3 was determined to be the most probable excitation and decay mode.
