Abstract:

A method for identifying and - after identification - reducing linear time invariant systems on the basis of input - output records of the system is reviewed, applied to physical devices and extended to handle the case where noise is present. The method is implemented using an analog to digital converter in order to have the input and output records in a digitized form and thus to be able to use an IBM 360 FORTRAN computer program composed of a numerical integration subroutine and another subroutine to solve overdetermined sets of linear algebraic equations. Several practical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and present capabilities of the procedure. Author
