A numerical model of cumulus convection including warm microphysics 1 has been used to examine the production, decay, rearrangement, and flux of energy of various kinds that result from the growth and decay of small cumulus clouds in initially static environments. The work is directed toward the understanding of how clouds interact with and modify their environment, the goal being to aid in the formulation of realistic parameterization of cumulus convection in large-scale atmospheric models.
