Abstract:

Near infrared laser action has been demonstrated for 9 Kodak organic dyes, using a linear flash lamp for excitation. The spectral region covered by these 9 dyes extends from 850 nm to at least 960 nm, with no tuning attempted so far. Output is in the kilowatt and millijoule range. In comparison with DTTC, a polymethine dye that has recently been lased under excitation by an ultra fast coaxial flash lamp, the best laser dyes from this work have over 10 times more laser output when tested under identical conditions.
