Abstract:

The report highlights some of the major findings of a 1972 nationwide study of the opinions of 1286 Americans, 18 years of age and older on civil defense. The report reflects upon the global context as it was seen in the early months of 1972, outlines the main features of national thinking about civil defense, and draws some policy relevant conclusions on the basis of the reported results.
