Basic principles are established related to the self-lubricating performance characteristics of sintered iron V-bushings impregnated with elemental sulfur. The resultant sulfur-iron composite was investigated as a replenishable lubricant source for various journal materials in sliding contact. The alloying of this system with molybdenum and tungsten is also discussed.
