The changes in pore volume, pore diameter, and surface area of Ni electrode substrates due to changes in the manufacturing process were studied. Three types of substrates were examined 2 pasted structures powered Ni plus urea plus binder with cellulose or with rubber cement, and sintered Ni powder. The factors affecting the NiOH2 formation on the Ni substrate had a greater effect on the electrochemical output of the battery electrode than factors affecting the substrate formation.
