Abstract:

The semi-annual report reflects the technical status of projects conducted within the Advanced Ocean Engineering Laboratory at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. These projects are to conceive, design, build and demonstrate the feasibility of large stable floating platforms in the open sea a program to develop and construct a quartz vertical accelerometer appropriately packaged and adapted for long term ocean bottom or perhaps sub- bottom use field studies of the water-sediment interface under wave action in and near the breaker zone and laboratory investigation of the velocity field of breaking waves use of radio signals scattered from the sea surface to determine the directional spectrum of ocean waves and a projected two-year laboratory and field investigation of the factors controlling the breaking of mixed-frequency wave systems in deep water.
