Abstract:

A perturbational analysis of the cosmic electron diffusion equation is developed. In the high energy domain, cosmic electron diffusion parallel to the galactic disk slab appears not to affect significantly the determination of the equilibrium electron energy spectrum. Diffusion across the galactic disk slab in the high energy domain is examined in detail. An active cosmic electron leakage at the disk-halo boundaries, coupled with diffusion across the disk slab, sensitively affects the cosmic electron spectral behavior up to a considerably high energy domain. In the high energy domain, the closed-disk model appears to prevail. In the low energy domain, the leakage time may become comparatively long, thus leading to the possible validity of a quasi-open-disk model. Author
