The report presents the application of pattern recognition and signal processing techniques to the problem of mechanical diagnosis. It is shown that an analysis of the vibration record from an internal combustion engine allows discrimination between faulty engines and ones in good condition. Two methods are presented, both based on the identification of important zones of the vibration records which are correlated with events occuring during an engine cycle. Author
