A system is described for evaluating the resolving power of photographic and other optical systems under test conditions typical of their everyday use. The test data thus obtained reflects the effects of atmospheric haze, mount stability, operator focusing error, etc. The 40 x 42 inch test targets, which are based on the USAF-1951 design, consist of resolution groups minus six through minus one with line widths varying from 0.56mm through 32mm. To facilitate the analysis of tests performed with the above targets, an extensive set of computer-generated Resolving Power Data Reduction Tables is presented in Appendix C.
