Abstract:

The investigation is concerned with obtaining evidence for a postulated photochemical decomposition mechanism for 1-nitropyrrolidine. Postulated intermediates, 1-hydroxypyrrolidine and 1-pyrroline-1-oxide were synthesized, characterized, and subjected to photochemical treatment. Gas chromatographic analysis revealed evidence of the presence of 1- hydroxypyrrolidine in the photochemical decomposition products of 1- nitropyrrolidine.
