The successful development of powerful infrared IR lasers, notably various types of CO2 lasers and certain chemical lasers, during the past five years has opened up many applications for IR-laser beams. The report of the Committee reviews in detail the state of the art and problems presented by each of the seven subject areas into which the field could be divided.
