Abstract:

The successful development of powerful infrared IR lasers, notably various types of CO2 lasers and certain chemical lasers, during the past five years has opened up many applications for IR-laser beams. The report of the Committee reviews in detail the state of the art and problems presented by each of the seven subject areas into which the field could be divided. These are Propagation of IR Radiation in Window Materials Fundamental Absorption Mechanisms Experimental Aspects in the Characterization of High-Power IR-Window Materials Single Crystal II-VI, III-V, and IV IR-Window Materials Chalcogenide Glass IR-Window Materials and Polycrystalline IR-Window Materials.
