As the modifying substances mono-, di-, and trimethylchlorsilanes and primary alcohols, containing from 3 to 8 atoms of carbon mainly the butyl kind, were used. The principle of their interaction with the surface of silica may be schematically represented. Also discussed is the effect of the treatment on silica used in filled elastomers.
