Abstract:
The elementary link lengths, l, and associated drainage areas, a, in drainage basins may be considered as correlated random variables drawn from a bivariate population. A theoretical model for the joint distribution is developed using the assumption that l and a depend in turn on other random variables, some of which they have in common. Some properties of the related quantities l and l squareda are also derived, and some quantitative results that can be compared with observations on natural networks are obtained. Author
