Abstract:

The elastic energy and momentum loss is computed for atom-atom and atom-ion collisions at relative energies above 50 eV. The two-atom Thomas-Fermi interaction potential computed by Lee, Longmire, and Rosenbluth is used in conjunction with Firsovs scaling rule for unlike atoms to obtain general formulas for the loss cross sections sigmae and sigmam.
