Abstract:

The objective of the work being done under this contract is to improve analytical methods of calculating the maximum loads on submarine equipment structures subjected to underwater shock. In this analysis the hull is treated as a infinitely long flexible circular cylinder. Fluid-structure interaction equations are based on the Mindlin-Bleich approximation which was modified to include cavitation at the hull boundary. The equipment structure was modeled as an N-mass system fixed to one position on the interior of the hull. Only one equipment structure is considered in the digital computer solution of the system of equations. However, the base of the structure can be located at any angular position of the hull interior.
