Abstract:
The uncoupled radiation analysis of diffusion-type chemical lasers is modified to treat coupled collisional and radiative relaxation of vibrationally excited lasing diatomics for the limiting case of a radiatively saturated medium. Closed-form expressions for HF and DF laser performance are obtained that show dependence on experimental quantities, gas transport properties, and vibrational and chemical rate processes. The V - T portion of the vibrational energy-transfer model of an earlier report is generalized so that the relative importance of each collision partner in V - T energy transfer can be assessed. General scaling laws are derived that indicate different dependencies of laser performance on stoichiometry and temperature, depending on which species are dominant in vibrational de-excitation of HFv the scaling laws for the effect of gas pressure and oxidizer-channel height on laser power and efficiency are unchanged from those deduced in the earlier report.
