The study develops costs, effectiveness criteria, and cost- effectiveness ratios for military herbicide systems in Vietnam and three other alternatives which can perform the missions of foliage removal and crop destruction in support of counterinsurgency operations. The systems considered are aerial delivery of herbicides by helicopters and aircraft, tactical land clearing with crawler tractors, slash and burn clearing with indigenous cutters, and firebombing with helicopters. Two sets of cost-effectiveness vectors are obtained.
