Abstract:

A program was conducted wherein a fibrous graphiteepoxy aircraft wheel was designed, fabricated and delivered to the Air Force for testing. The composite wheel was fabricated using continuous fibers laid up on a male mold with multiple autoclave staging. The material was applied in broadgood patterns by hand and in continuous forms by filament winding. The completed layup was machined to proper configuration.
