Abstract:
The purpose of this program is to study the effect of factors such as tool shape, blow energy, single and multiple location impacts and spacing on the fragmentation of hard rock. The major activities within the project include Theoretical analysis and parameter study fracture tests on barre granite and, field tests in various formations. Annual results are reported herein for each of these activity areas. The goal of the program is to obtain a better understanding of mechanical rock breakage in order to provide for a faster, more economical method of underground excavation in hard rock formations to be eventually developed.
