Abstract:
Analyses of Potomac River sediments for approximately 20 metals have been made using atomic absorption spectrometry. Sample preparation involved extraction with water and nitric acid. The river area surveyed extended from Key Bridge to Piney Point, a distance of 96 river miles. Data are presented for the following metals aluminum, barium, cadmium, calcium, chromium, cobalt, copper, iron, lead, lithium, magnesium, manganese, nickel, potassium, silver, strontium, vanadium, and zinc. A few analyses were also made for mercury.
