Abstract:
Development of techniques for air-induction melting of TRIP steel alloys was investigated. Sound ingots of Type A-2 TRIP steel were produced, processed, and are currently undergoing mechanical testing. Several methods for monitoring martensitic transformation were evaluated. A ferromagnetic technique remains to be appraised. Various homogenization treatments were investigated in order to optimize microstructure prior to thermomechanical processing.
