The research is concerned with an investigation of task, environmental and nutritional variables affecting mans ability to perform for long periods of time, as well as factors influencing recovery from the effects of long-term performance. The Army is presently considering the feasibility of sustained and continuous operations. Recent technological innovations have rendered this continuous operations notion feasible from a technical standpoint the question remains open as to whether man is equal to the task. The conference brought together representatives of the Defense community and contractors presently performing research related to continuous operations, for the purpose of discussing the concept and attempting to formulate goals andor gaps in our knowledge of long-term performance and recovery. This report contains the formal presentations to the conference, as well as the edited transcript of discussions following each presentation.
