Abstract:
Rabbits received 20cckg of intravenous lipid emulsion and were terminated from 2 hours to 8 weeks post-injection. Pigment became prominent at 6 days and was still present in liver and spleen at 8 weeks. Lipid was incorporated into macrophages in spleens at 2 hours by endocytosis. By 6 days this lipid was surrounded by pigment. The pigment was morphologically identical to secondary lysosomes. These results suggest that this lipid emulsion once incorporated into lysosomes of liver and spleen is stored there. Author
