Abstract:
One of the most time consuming functions facing management and staff in most organizations is the need to participate in various forms of group communications. The methods available for group discussions as opposed to presentation formats are actually quite limited in number. They include committee or panel meetings, telephone conference calls, Delphi exercises and Delphi conferences. The purpose of the paper is to describe two computerized versions of the basic telephone conference call. These two systems, titled PARTY-LINE anD 3DISCUSSION, provide a completely new and unique group communication form and have particular utility for geographically dispersed groups desiring immediate written records of the proceedings. Considerations of both relative effectiveness and cost between computerized and verbal conference modes are quantified and discussed. Author
