The basic theses of the electron theory of alloys, which determine the formation of solutions, are formulated. Among other factors, the structure of the outer shell of metal ions is indicated. Ions with given spherical shells or given nonoverlapping, and given shells stabilize dense packings. Ions with given nonoverlapping, and given shells are stabilizers of body centered cubic structures. An analysis is given of the interaction of Ti, Zr, and Tl with alloying elements.
