Abstract:
The author studies the vibrations of a thin, closed, circular cylindrical shell that arise during sudden heating. He sets up differential equations of motion, considering the inertia or progressive motion, rotation, and displacement. The solution is in the form of series. For special cases of thermal distribution, the computations were done on a Ural-11 electronic digital computer, and the author derived the functions of the change in the shells dynamic flexure. He discusses transversal and longitudinal vibrations and makes the transition to the solution of the wave problem for a semi-infinite shell. Author
