Abstract:

A survey was made of problems of testing materials to predict their performance in components and structures. The viewpoint is that of the designer and those whom he serves. The report discusses the role of testing in arriving at design decisions. Checklists and other practical hints for deciding when to test and when testing could be superfluous are provided.
