Abstract:
Visibility is one of the most important weather elements in marine navigation. It is commonly believed that the primary factors determining visibility are the wind speed and the relative moisture content of the air. Using regression analysis, an attempt is made to establish a linear functional relationship between observed visibility and objectively-determined parameters from conventional marine surface observations. Forecast visibilities are obtained from derived regression equations using elements available from a numerical primitive equation forecast model. Author
