Abstract:
The report summarizes research on speech generation, speech analysis, and speech perception. The work on speech production includes study of the mechanisms of turbulence noise generation and vocal-cord vibration, and of other acoustic characteristics for certain classes of vowels and consonants. Various digital speech processing techniques are described, including computer-generated speech spectrograms. Other projects include implementation of a procedure for recognition of single-syllable words, studies of speaker variability and techniques for speaker recognition, and development of a scheme for speech synthesis by rule utilizing improved methods for synthesis of phonetic segments and for providing appropriate timing. The activities of the research group have also involved th continued development of a flexible computer-based facility for speech research. Author
