Abstract:

The concept of job enrichment has been recognized as a key to junior officer motivation. However, attempts at enrichment have been hampered by the lack of a means to clearly determine what aspects of the work need enrichment. Using hierarchical factor analytic techniques, this research developed a 42-item questionnaire designed to measure junior officer attitudes toward significant aspects of the work itself. The questionnaire, together with the norms calculated by the researchers, provide Air Force managers a vehicle for better understanding the nature of junior officer attitudes toward the work itself, and thus a basis for job enrichment efforts.
