Abstract:
The problem of the successful approximation of nonlinear characteristics still attracts research workers. At least two factors have heightened interest in it of late the appearance of new types of semiconductor nonlinear elements in particular, the tunnel diode and the broadening use of electronic computers in the investigation of nonlinear problems. The possibility of using electronic computers permits reliance on relatively complicated approximating functions, so that the dilemma of approximation accuracy versus analytic simplicity involved in the difficulties of a problem and the above-cited success of an approximation appears less critical than when only manual methods were used in studying nonlinear problems.
