Abstract:
The problem of determining lower critical pressure on a cylindrical shell under a constant external load is solved with the O. V. Pogorelov method. This method is based on a technique of approximating the mean surface shape of a shell during supercritical elastic equilibrium. First of all it is assumed that supercritical deformation is essentially a geometrical flexure. It is also assumed that supercritical deformation constitutes development of a form of wave generation on the surface of a shell at the moment of loss stability. Author
