Abstract:
The principal known effects of the space flight environment upon the physiologic function of human subjects have been reviewed as have the results and validity of biomedical ground-based simulation. Where known, the time courses of these physiologic changes have been described. Our ability to modify the deconditioning effects of space flight has been discussed from the standpoints 1 of improving the effectiveness of environmental control and life support systems and 2 of providing countermeasures especially exercise as a means of modifying the effects of weightlessness and a degree of physical inactivity.
