An Experimental Study of Wind Velocity Profiles over a Wavy Surface
DELAWARE UNIV NEWARK COLL OF MARINE STUDIES
Pagination or Media Count:
Wind velocity profiles and turbulence measurements have been obtained over a plow corrugated field using hot-film and cup anemometers at sampling heights covering from 3 cm to 4 m. The profiles, based on averaging times from 5 to 15 minutes, fit the logarithmic model with correlation coefficients greater than 0.9 and with many greater than 0.97. The data support the conjecture of Ruggles 1970 that large and sporadic fluctuations in the roughness length and friction velocity observed over water are due to the generation of wind waves on the surface.
