The report describes the structure-medium interaction code SMIPH developed from the FEAT Code. The SMIPH code is a structure centered axisymmetric finite element code for the analysis of plane stress wave propagation in earth type materials including geostatic effects. The code was originally developed on the IBM 360 and then converted to the CDC 6600 computer at the AFWL Kirtland AFB. The primary objective in developing this code has been to perform a GRABS Giant Reusable Air Blast Simulator pre-test prediction of the first structural test. In addition to this pretest prediction a posttest analysis of the GRABBS D-1 test was made to establish the credibility of the code results. In addition to these analyses a procedure has been developed to determine the initial geostatic material stress state. This procedure is described in Appendix B of this report and is a modified acceleration pulse integration method. Author
